15 Years of Working from the Wings

May 2011. Adele ruled the airwaves, royal wedding fever gripped the world, and a nascent app called Instagram introduced us to the Valencia filter. Somewhere in a Kits spare bedroom, Laura Murray Public Relations quietly opened for business.

Fifteen years later—through countless cultural shifts, a global pandemic, and more dance parties than we can count—we’re still here, still championing the arts + creative industries, still supporting the community we love.

The Evolution
For our first five years, we operated as Laura Murray Public Relations. In 2016, founding team member Brian Paterson joined as partner, and we  rebranded to Murray Paterson Marketing Group—a name that better reflected our growing services and collaborative spirit.

The People
MPMG has always been about people. We’re constantly inspired by the incredible range of artists + professionals whose work we support, and by all the talented team members we’ve collaborated with through the years.

The Spaces
We’ve set up shop in numerous  locations over the years—multiple offices in Vancouver + Toronto, work-from-home setups that COVID ushered in (complete with new furry office mates). Each space holds fond memories of strategy sessions, hard-won victories, and more than a few dance parties.

The Places
Our work has afforded us the opportunity to see much of the world. From conferences in New York, Portland, and the Maritimes; to client events in Toronto, LA, Beijing,  Shanghai, and at home on the Sunshine Coast; and so much more. We’re grateful for these experiences that expanded our hearts and minds + connected us to an international community of incredible creatives.

The Highlights
These 15 years have brought ambitious experiments and pinch-me moments in equal measure. We launched Taluka Lake Artist Management and our Arts Agenda educational series. We penned an arts column for 24 Hours. We  worked with amazing artists across multiple genres from Atom Egoyan to Yann Martel, Mikhail Baryshnikov and Yo Yo Ma. And we earned multiple awards coupled with recognition through the BCAMA Marketing Awards, Western Canada Marketing & PR Awards, and BC Business’ 40 Under 40—honours that were both humbling and mind-blowing.

What’s next? More art. More audiences. More community. And—let’s be honest—more karaoke dance parties.
