Q&A: Rebecca Sharma

Marketing Director Rebecca Sharma is LMPR's newest member of the team. With a rich background in non-profit and arts marketing, Rebecca comes to LMPR from her most recent role as Director of Patron Development at The Cultch.

1) Tell us about yourself!

I’m grateful to work in the arts, and take great satisfaction from applying my expertise to a field I believe in. To quote Ani DiFranco, “art is the reason I get up in the morning.” Passion, authenticity, and creativity are all values I hold dearly in both my professional and personal life. Whether I’m building audiences for contemporary dance, organising a hiking trip with friends, or volunteering in mental health, I’m motivated by these values.

2) How did you get into arts marketing?

I was hired by The Cultch to manage their marketing and communications initiatives (and later, their fundraising program). This felt like a homecoming for me. It was my first gig in arts marketing, and clearly not my last – a six year intensive education in contemporary performing arts.

3) Which arts organizations inspire you?

Where to begin? The choreography of Crystal Pite and her company Kidd Pivot, the provocative new works by Electric Company Theatre, the poetic music of Veda Hille; they’ve all inspired me over the years. I’m also inspired by the model created by Vancouver’s Progress Lab 1422 – a collective of performing arts companies that have banded together to share resources and ideas in one creative space. As public funding continues to decrease, it’s lean, responsive and innovative arts organisations like this that will thrive.

4) What excites you about the arts in Vancouver?

I love seeing collaboration and mentorship between artists and arts organisations. Some examples of this cooperation include the presenting partnerships like that of the PuSh Festival with numerous local companies, or the support extended to young artists through programs like The Cultch’s free IGNITE! Mentorship initiative. Vancouver is teeming with creative collaborations!

5) What are you most looking forward to in your new role at LMPR?

The incredible team I’ll be working with and the outstanding roster of clients!
