Working with Man Booker-winning Author Yann Martel at Indian Summer

Working on the first annual Indian Summer festival has been an absolute delight for the Laura Murray Public Relations team. In addition to experiencing an incredible array of Indian culture (and savouring no small amount of Vikram Vij‘s remarkable culinary creations), we have had the opportunity to meet and converse with a great number of brilliant, inspiring artists, and thinkers.

A highlight of our first week has definitely been working with Life of Pi author Yann Martel, who was at the festival to participate in a special conversation event with Bollywood actress Tabu. The two met together for the first time on stage on Friday July 8 at SFU Woodward’s to discuss the upcoming Ang Lee-directed adaption of Life of Pi, in which Tabu plays the role of Pi’s mother.

In addition to enjoying Yann’s on-stage conversation, we also had the opportunity to spend time with the esteemed author as we arranged for and accompanied him on a variety of radio, print and television interviews. The warm, brilliant father of two was an endless font of fascinating conversation.

A special thanks to the organizers of Indian Summer for the wonderful opportunity (and to you Yann, if you’ve got your Google alerts set and are reading this!)

Also, some good news for Yann Martel and Tabu fans who missed Friday’s event: Charlie Smith of the Georgia Straight was on hand with video camera, and has generously posted highlights from the conversation.
